Support Committee

The Prince Albert Branch of the Navy League of Canada is an organization that believes in and adheres to the mission statement of the NLC – “to promote, organize, sponsor, and support and encourage the education of youth through the Cadet movement”.

The Branch is responsible for the fundraising, holding, and administration of funds for both RCSCC Rawalpindi and The Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC) W.K. Reed. Parents are encouraged to take part in the activities of the Branch by volunteering some time, helping out with fundraisers, attend parent meetings, and/or becoming a Branch member. Parent meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month, starting at 1800hrs (6:00pm), from September to June. All parents are invited to attend the meetings to keep up with what the Branch is planning.

The Sea Cadet program is co-sponsored by DND and the NCL. DND supplies uniforms for the cadets and officers, trains and promotes the officers who are responsible for your child, provides rations and transportation for DND sponsored activities, and the opportunity to attend a Cadet Summer Training Centre at different locations across Canada.

The Sea Cadet program is a comprehensive which is run in a structured, disciplined and safe manner. In this context, it is important to ensure all volunteers are appropriately selected, initially supervised, well-intended, offer skills which add value and are good role models for the Sea Cadets. Knowing the volunteers, their skills, and talents, and their intended contribution is very important to the corps officers, staff and the Branch. A team effort produces the best results for the greater benefit of the cadet movement.

There are different activities that are not sponsored by DND and are paid for from the money that is fundraised by the cadets, including transportation and meals. To provide extra training activities, it is necessary for the Branch to raise money through fundraising activities such as bingos, bottle drives, chocolate sales, and pizza sales. If you have any other ideas, please feel free to contact Branch. It is appreciated when all Cadets and parents pitch in and do their part to make sure these fundraisers are a success.

If you have a unique skill set that can benefit the Cadets, please let us know! We can always use help with recruiting, open houses, and fundraisers. You do not need to be a Branch member to aid with these activities.

It should be understood that Branch’s responsibility for the volunteers complement those of DND and are of a supporting nature. The Commanding Officer and the supporting staff have command and control of the Cadets and are responsible for supervision and implementation of the training program set out by DND. To fulfill its responsibilities to the Cadets, DND is required to conform to rulings by the Supreme Court of Canada that defines the level of care required by any organization in protecting youth under its direction. This level of cadre has been defined as that which would be exercised by a prudent parent in protecting their child. As a full, active partner in this aspect of the Sea Cadet program, it is also reasonable that we should also ensure that our registration and screening protocols meet the same standard required by our military partners.

In order to be properly acquainted with volunteers, certain information is required. A volunteer registration and information form must be completed. An interview with a League representative will be required after receipt of the completed form and police record check is done.

By applying and being approved, the volunteer undertakes an obligation to report any subsequent change to their circumstances that is of a nature to reasonable and usually require a re-evaluation and re-screening.

We thank you for your generous offer of volunteer services and hope you understand the legal and moral obligation of Branch in reviewing the suitability of all individuals working or involved with youth. Volunteering will enhance your Cadets experience.

Welcome to RCSCC Rawalpindi and the Prince Albert Branch. We are happy to have you join us!
