Attendance Policy
Regular training is on Thursday evenings and some weekends through the school year. To progress through the training program, and earn promotions to higher ranks, it is important for each cadet to participate regularly. There are certain aspects of the program that are mandatory for promotion, like participating in both leadership and physical fitness activities.
We understand that not everyone can make every training night. If a Cadet will be absent from training, we appreciate being notified by phone, text, or email. If notification is provided, this is marked as ‘excused’ rather than absent. Too many absences can impact selection for optional activities and summer training.
Weekend and Optional Training
Activities and training sometimes occur on the weekends. Some of the training is required for successful completion of the cadet training level. Mandatory weekend training can include sail training, marksmanship, and citizenship activities.
Possible activities and weekends include the following:
- Make and Mend Weekend (November)
- Remembrance Day (November 11)
- Range/Sports Weekend (October)
- Seamanship Inter-Divisional Competition Weekend (April)
- February Fallies (February)
- Sports Weekend (January)
- Battle of the Atlantic (May)
- Nautical Weekend (June)
- Decoration Day (June)
- Sailing Weekend (June)
- Marksmanship and Biathlon Competitions (throughout the year)
Conduct and Disipline
The Canadian Cadet Organization requires each Cadet to sign a Code of Conduct, which is included with the registration forms, upon joining the Corps.
Positive Social Relations for Youth (PSRY)
The safety and well-being of every cadet is of primary importance to the Canadian Cadet Movement. The PSRY program was implemented so that clear expectations are provided to all Cadets by preparing Cadets to:
- Interact comfortably within the cadet community
- Interact positively with others
- Exercise sound judgement
- Accept personal accountability for actions and choices
- Deal with interpersonal conflict
- Seek assistance from available resources when needed
There are many places for youth to seek help with harassment and abuse prevention and may access any avenue they are comfortable with. The Corps staff are available to assist with conflict and providing links to resources, as required.
